Lomax leads the playoff charge for the Hornets

Justice Lomax will be a name to remember, especially if you plan on making a trip to Ware Shoals this Friday for their matchup against Calhoun Falls in a consequential matchup in 1A Region 1. Lomax is the heart and soul of the Hornets offensively and defensively, and continues to impress week after week.

After falling just shy of 1,000 yards rushing a season ago, Lomax felt that he had unfinished business to handle in his senior season. With three games left to play on the schedule, Lomax is currently sitting at 750 yards on the ground.

“Hitting 1,000 yards is a goal,” Lomax stated. “I feel good, I’ve got three games to hit it.”

Along with his running back duties, he also serves as a lockdown corner and a defensive anchor for the Hornets.

“He’s going to be a corner at the next level,” Ware Shoals Head Coach, Chris Dodson stated. “His size, speed, and agility will make him a good corner at the next level.”

Lomax, who already has a couple of interceptions on the defensive side of the ball, has put his cornerback skills to the forefront.

“If I know I’m doing well on defense, it carries over to the offense,” said Lomax. “Teams watch me on film and aren’t throwing my way anymore.”

A huge clash is brewing between the Blue Flashes of Calhoun Falls and the Lomax led Hornets. The winner will most likely receive the last spot in the 1-A playoffs. Dixie and McCormick both have wins over Ware Shoals, Calhoun Falls will finish the season against the Green Hornets and Chiefs. Time is running out for Ware Shoals to make a statement in the region and there is no better opportunity than Friday night in front of their home crowd.

“We need this one bad,” coach Dodson said. “I hope everybody shows up to support the kids.”

With the playoffs looming, the the Hornets players know that it’s their time to step up.

“Come out [to the game], it’s going to be a good show.” Lomax stated in regards to the matchup Friday night. “Me and my teammates want to put on a good show for everybody, we love everyone that has supported us.”

In last season’s game against Calhoun Falls, Lomax shined in a Hornets victory. He rushed for 296 yards and had four touchdowns on the ground to secure a much needed win for Ware Shoals.

It’s now or never for the Hornets to etch their name into postseason play. Expect a raucous crowd from both sections Friday night in Ware Shoals.
